Thermal Imaging for Leaks: How Does it Work?
Leak Detection
In the past, finding a hidden leak meant cutting 'exploratory holes' in your drywall until the plumber found wet insulation. Today, we use thermal imaging cameras.
Seeing the Invisible
Thermal cameras detect temperature differences, not just water.
- Evaporative Cooling: As water leaks and evaporates inside a wall, it cools the surface of the drywall slightly.
- The Result: The camera shows a distinct dark blue/purple blob spreading across the screen against the warmer orange/red wall.
Why Use It?
This allows us to pinpoint the exact location of the leak so we only cut a small patch of drywall to repair it, saving you money on reconstruction costs.
