What Constitutes a "Plumbing Emergency"?
Emergency Plumbing
Not every leak is an emergency. In the plumbing world, we define an 'emergency' based on three factors: Health, Safety, and Property Damage.
1. Risk of Flooding (Property Damage)
If water is uncontrolled and will ruin flooring, drywall, or electronics within hours, it is an emergency. A burst supply line falls into this category.
2. Lack of Essential Services (Health)
If you cannot use the bathroom or wash your hands/dishes for an extended period, it becomes a health hazard. A main sewer line backup is a top-tier emergency for this reason.
3. Danger to Occupants (Safety)
Gas leaks or water heater malfunctions that could cause scalding or explosions are immediate safety threats.
