Food You Should NEVER Put in a Garbage Disposal
Garbage Disposal
Garbage disposals are designed for small scraps of soft food. They are not magic black holes. Putting the wrong things down the drain is the #1 cause of kitchen sink backups.
The "Do Not Grind" List
- Fibrous Vegetables: Celery, asparagus, and corn husks have strings that wrap around the blades and motor like a net.
- Coffee Grounds: They don't grind; they pile up like wet sand in the P-trap, creating a dense sludge.
- Eggshells: The membrane inside the shell can stick to the shredder ring, while the shell itself turns into abrasive grit.
- Grease/Oil: It pours down liquid but hardens into a solid block of fat inside your pipes.
- Bones & Pits: Peach pits and chicken bones are too hard. They will dull the blades or jam the motor instantly.
