Trenchless Sewer Repair vs. Excavation: Pros and Cons
Sewer Line
When homeowners hear 'sewer line replacement,' they often picture a backhoe tearing up their driveway and rose bushes. While traditional excavation is still used, trenchless technology offers a less destructive alternative.
Traditional Excavation
- Pros: Lower upfront cost for the plumbing work itself. It allows the plumber to correct the 'slope' or grade of the pipe if it was installed incorrectly.
- Cons: Highly destructive. You are responsible for the cost of repairing your driveway, replanting your garden, and re-sodding the lawn after the plumbers leave. It also takes longer (3-5 days).
Trenchless Repair (CIPP Lining)
We insert a resin-saturated liner into the existing pipe, which cures to form a brand new pipe-within-a-pipe.
- Pros: Zero digging required (usually just one access hole). Completed in 1 day. The new pipe is seamless and root-proof.
- Cons: Higher upfront cost. Cannot be used if the old pipe has completely collapsed.
